Swiss forward Sven Andrighetto, who captured the Swiss National League title, Champions League title and a World Championship Silver medal to cap his 2024-25 season, was today awarded the IIHF’s Male Player Of The Year Award.
The 32-year old Andrighetto, who has been with Zürich since 2020, capped his fifth season with the Lions by capturing Zürich’s first Champions Hockey League title in February, leading the tournament in goals (10) and points (22), capturing tournament MVP honours. He then followed that victory up with the Lions’ second straight National League Championship, where he led the playoffs in points (22 in 16 games) after notching 39 points in 45 regular season games. He then capped the season the following month with eight points in nine games for the Eisgenossen, taking the Swiss to their second straight Gold Medal Game, falling just short in a tight 1-0 loss to Team USA in the final.
This is Andrighetto’s third Silver medal (2018, 2024, 2025) in six Worlds appearances, also having appeared for Switzerland at the 2022 Beijing Olympics, and the 2012 and 2013 World Junior Championships. Prior to joining the NL, Andrighetto spent five seasons in the NHL with Montréal and Colorado, and one season with Omsk of the KHL.
Andrighetto received 34.6% of the vote to win the trophy, beating out Jeremy Swayman (18.6%) of the Gold-medalist United States, David Pastrňák of Czechia (18%), teammate Denis Malgin (11.1%), American Clayton Keller (8.8%) and Canadian Nathan MacKinnon (6.5%), with American Golden goal scorer Tage Thompson also receiving a vote.
