Canada’s National Women’s Team concluded its pre-Olympic international schedule on Tuesday with a 3-2 defeat at the hands of the USA in Vancouver, despite outshooting them 32-18.

The US opened the scoring on the powerplay, Karyn Bye’s shot from the point eluded Canadian netminder Kim St-Pierre. Despite some chances on both sides, that was the only goal of the first as the US led 1-0.

Early in the second, St-Pierre held Canada close with an outstanding glove save off of Andrea Kilbourne. The score held until 7:17 of the middle period when Hayley Wickenheiser evened things at 1-1.

Canada took the lead in the third when Jennifer Botterill knocked a loose puck past U.S. goaltender Sarah Tueting.

Jenny Potter evened the score at 2, at 13:13 of the third period, after a bouncing puck found her stick in the slot. And just over a minute later, Krissy Wendell gave the U.S. a lead would not relinquish, intercepting an errant clearing pass and beating St-Pierre.
