Canada’s National Women’s Team will head into the 2009 IIHF World Women’s Championship riding a three-game winning streak after defeating Finland 3-0 on Tuesday.

Meghan Agosta picked up the eventual game-winner just shy of the 12-minute mark of the opening period, snapping a shot past Finnish goaltender Noora Räty on a breakaway for a 1-0 Canadian lead.

Canada doubled its lead in the second period on the power play when Haley Irwin earned her first international goal with Canada’s National Women’s Team, banking a centering pass a Finnish defender and past Räty.

Sarah Vaillancourt rounded out the scoring with just 70 seconds remaining on the clock, converting into an empty net.

Shannon Szabados made 20 saves for Canada’s second consecutive shutout. It blanked the Espoo Blues on Sunday, and also scored a win over EHC Red Devil on Saturday.

The team will now prepare for the 2009 IIHF World Women’s Championship, which starts on 04 April in Hämeenlinna when Canada faces China.
