In the day’s first matchup at the 2016 USA Hockey National Junior Evaluation Camp at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Michigan, Finland came from behind to defeat Canada, 2-1, in overtime from a goal by Arttu Ruostalainen.
Canada opened the scoring with 5:07 remaining in the first period when Travis Konecny collected a pass from Tyson Jost, skated down the right wall and fired a wrist shot over the right pad of Finnish goaltender Veini Vehviläinen.
After a scoreless middle period, Finland evened the score with 7:19 left in the third period with Ruotsalainen collecting an assist on the game-tying goal.
Just 1:22 into the extra frame, Ruotsalainen snuck a puck past Cormier for the game-winning tally. Vehviläinen made 34 saves in the victory.
