πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ Amanda Pelkey Confirms Retirement From Hockey At 32

American forward Amanda Pelkey confirmed her retirement from pro hockey at the age of 32, following spending the inaugural two seasons of the PWHL in Boston, capping a career highlighted by two World Championship and one Olympic Gold medals for Team USA.

A native New Englander, Pelkey joined the Boston Pride of the NWL in 2015 following a four-year collegiate career at the University of Vermont, spending three years in Boston and capturing the Isobel Cup in 2016, leaving to join the PWHPA in 2019. Pelkey would return to the rebranded PHF in 2022 with the Metropolitan Riveters, before returning to Boston with the new PWHL in 2023, spending her final two pro seasons with the Fleet. Pelkey was a two-time NWHL / PHF All-Star (2016, 2023), and ends her combined pro career with 55 points in 121 career games over six seasons.

A Vermont native, Pelkey first joined Team USA’s junior system at the 2009 Under-18 World Junior Championships, winning two Gold and one Silver in her three appearances. She debuted for the national senior team in 2011, making her tournament debut at the 2014 Four Nations Cup, capturing Silver, followed by three consecutive Gold medals (2015, 2016, 2017). She made her first of two consecutive World Championship appearances during that span, winning Gold in both 2016 and 2017, capped off with her lone Olympic appearance at the 2018 PyeongChang Games, helping Team USA to their first Olympic title in two decades. Pelkey made her final national team appearance at the debut Rivalry Series in 2019, not suiting up for Team USA after the pandemic.

Over the course of her career, Pelkey would capture the IHLC six times, starting in a 2011 exhibition game, and ending with her Gold Medal in Korea seven years later. We wish Amanda and her family the very best for her retirement and the things to come!
