Marie-Philip Poulin and Sarah Fillier both scored four goals as Canada beat Denmark 14-1 in Rรธdovre.

For only the second time in history, Denmarkโ€™s womenโ€™s team faced off against mighty Canada. The first time the two nations met, was back in 1992 in the World Championship in Tampere, Finland. Back then, the Danish โ€œpioneersโ€ in womenโ€™s hockey lost 10-0 in a one-sided game.

Since then both nations have come a long way in developing the womenโ€™s game, but Canada โ€“ together with Team USA โ€“ is still the team to beat.

The Danes felt that on Saturday at the Rรธdovre Centrum Arena in the suburbs of Copenhagen where 273 spectators saw Canada win 14-1 in an exhibition leading into the start of the 2022 IIHF Ice Hockey Womenโ€™s World Championship in Denmark on Thursday.

Team Canada took control of the game early and scored six goals in the first period, including three goals in just 38 seconds in the 14th minute when Marie-Philip Poulin scored twice, followed by a goal from Sarah Fillier.

Cassandra Repstock-Romme in the Danish goal had a busy evening facing 42 shots in the two first periods, Denmark managing only two shots on Emerance Maschmeyer and Kristen Campbell in the Canadian goal.

Things got a little better for Denmark in the third period. Shots 12-4 Canada and a Danish goal scored by Josephine Asperup in the 51st minute.

Denmark faces another tough game Sunday evening against Team Finland in Rรธdovre, while Team Canada will face Team USA on Tuesday in Herning for the last exhibition game before the championship starts on Thursday.
