๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Gigi Marvin Confirms Retirement From Hockey At Age 37

With details around the 2024-25 PWHL season set to be revealed soon, a major part of the American women’s game for the past nearly two decades confirmed she will not take part, as Gigi Marvin today announced her retirement from hockey at the age of 37.

A star forward with her native University of Minnesota, Marvin was a two-time Patty Kazmaier Award finalist in her collegiate career, captaining the Gophers in her final season. Marvin then made her pro debut with the Minnesota Whitecaps of the WWHL, before joining Boston of the CWHL, capturing the Clarkson Cup with the Blades in 2013, becoming an unofficial member of the pre-PWHL Triple Gold Club. She would then move cross-town to the Boston Pride of the NWHL in 2015, capturing the Isobel Cup in 2016, spending three seasons with the Pride before joining the PWHPA in 2019. Marvin would spend her final pro season with Boston of the upstart PWHL, coming within one game of the inaugural Walter Cup before falling to Minnesota in the decisive Game Five.

A native of Warroad, Minnesota, the daughter of the “State of Hockey” debuted for Team USA at the 2007 World Championship, her first of seven appearances, medalling at every tournament, capturing five Gold (2008, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2017) and two Silver (2007, 2012) medals. Marvin also suited up at three Olympics, capturing consecutive Silvers in 2010 and 2014 before helping Team USA win their first Olympic Gold in two decades at the 2018 PyeongChang games, scoring America’s first of three shootout goals in their 3-2 win. Marvin also captured eight medals at the Four Nations Cup, winning five Gold (2008, 2011, 2015, 2017, 2018), two Silver (2007, 2009) and one Bronze (2013) medal. Marvin made her final appearances with Team USA at the 2019 Rivalry Series, before retiring from the national team in 2021.

Over the course of her illustrious career, Marvin captured the IHLC a total of thirteen times, first at the 2008 World Championship, and the final coming a decade later, in her Gold medal victory in Korea. We wish Gigi and her family the very best for her retirement and the things to come!
