๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ช Loui Eriksson Confirms Retirement After Two Year Absence


Two years after his most recent game in the Swedish Hockey League semifinals, Loui Eriksson today confirmed his retirement from pro hockey, leaving the sport at age 39 after twenty pro seasons across three countries.

After coming up in his hometown Frรถlunda’s system, Eriksson, a second round pick of Dallas in 2003, joined the club’s system in 2005, after winning the Elitserien title in his final Swedish season. Eriksson debuting for the main club in 2006, spending his first eight pro seasons in the Stars organization, being named an NHL All-Star in 2011. Eriksson would spend three seasons each with Boston and Vancouver, before joining Arizona in 2021 for his final NHL season, reaching 1,000 career games. Unsigned after the 2022 season, Eriksson returned to Frรถlunda for his final pro season, marking twenty career seasons across the NHL, AHL and Swedish leagues.

Eriksson first suited up on the international stage for the Juniorkronorna at age 16, competing at the World Juniors in 2004 and 2005. Eriksson debuted for the senior Tre Kronor squad at the 2009 World Championships, his first of six appearances, which would see him capture a trio of Gold (2013), Silver (2011) and Bronze (2009) medals. Eriksson would also suit up at the Vancouver 2010 and Sochi 2014 Olympics, capturing Silver at the latter, and at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey, finishing third.

Over the course of his two decades in hockey, Eriksson would capture the IHLC four times, first at the 2010 Olympics and lastly at the 2019 World Championships, his final international appearance. We wish Loui and his family the very best for his retirement and the things to come!
