Joakim Nordström’s goal at 2:16 of overtime gave Sweden a dramatic comeback 4-3 win over Russia and a semi-final bye. Russia faces the Czechs in Monday’s second quarter-final, while the Swedes will play the winner of FinlandSlovakia on Tuesday.

Max Friberg scored his sixth goal of the World Juniors and Sweden went on to beat Slovakia 9-1. Seventeen-year-old Sebastian Collberg and Erik Thorell added pairs. Sweden will battle Russia for a semi-final bye on New Year’s Eve, while the Slovaks will try to escape the Relegation Round.

Being two goals down in the third period, Switzerland tied it up and forced Sweden to a shootout and the pro-Swiss crowd shouted for more. But the Swedes had the better nerves, niftier moves at the end and prevailed with a 4-3 win, thanks to shoot-out goals from Sebastian Collberg and Max Friberg.
