πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ Meghan Agosta Formally Announces Retirement From Hockey

Canadian forward Meghan Agosta, who starred on Team Canada since the age of seventeen, today made her retirement from hockey official twenty years after it begun, having not played competitively since 2018, following an illustrious career with three Olympic and two World Championship Gold Medals.

Following her collegiate career at Mercyhurst University, Agosta joined the CWHL’s MontrΓ©al Stars in 2011, capturing the Clarkson Cup and League MVP honours in 2012, as well as winning the Angela James Bowl for top scorer in both of her seasons, with her Clarkson Cup making her an unofficial member of the women’s Triple Gold Club. However, her pro ambitions were put on hold after the 2014 Sochi Games, as Agosta shifted her focus only to the national team while pursuing a career in law enforcement, joining the Vancouver Police Department in 2015.

A native of southwestern Ontario, Mikkelson made her senior national team debut at the 2004 Four Nations Cup, with her first full international tournament coming at the 2006 Turin Olympics, where she would capture her first of three consecutive Olympic Gold titles (2006, 2010, 2014), along with a Silver in 2018. Agosta would also dress at eight World Championships, capturing two Gold (2007, 2012) and six Silver (2008, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2016, 2017) medals, along with seven Nations Cup Gold (2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2013) and six Silver (2008, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2016, 2017) medals between 2004 and 2017. Her national career would come to a close at the 2018 PyeongChang Games, where it was Agosta whose final shootout attempt was stopped by American goaltender Maddie Rooney, giving Team USA just their second Olympic Gold in history.

Mikkelson captured the IHLC a stunning twenty times in her career, first at the aforementioned Nations Cup in 2004, with her last coming in 2017, in the lead-up to the 2018 PyeongChang Games. We wish Meghan and her family the very best for her retirement and the things to come!
