After the IIHF stripped Russia of hosting duties for the 2023 World Junior Championship due to their ongoing invasion in Ukraine, today the Federation announced that hosting rights were instead awarded to Halifax, Nova Scotia and Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada, with the tournament set to begin on 26 December 2022.

After a sweeping recommendation from the International Olympic Committee to remove Russia and Belarus from international sporting competitions, following their invasion of Ukraine that began on 24 February, today the International Ice Hockey Federation announced a number of updates regarding their respective participation and hosting of future competitions.

After the third game in two days needed to be cancelled due to positive cases on an individual team, today the IIHF announced that the remainder of the 2022 World Junior Championships in Edmonton and Red Deer, Alberta, Canada would be cancelled.

๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡บ CAS Shortens Russian International Sports Ban To Two Years


At a ruling today at the Court Of Arbitration For Sport (CAS) in Lausanne, Switzerland, Russia’s proposed four year sporting ban from the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) was reduced to two years, meaning that Russia will be banned from participating in any international sporting competition, including the 2021 Summer and 2022 Winter Olympics, until 17 December 2022.

๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ Edmonton To Be Sole Host Of 2021 World Junior Bubble


Shortly after the IIHF announced that all lower-tier World Junior tournaments would be cancelled for 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they today announced that the 2021 World Juniors Top Division will now be hosted in a “bubble” in Edmonton, which is currently hosting the 2020 NHL playoffs in a similar bubble, with the 2022 World Juniors to now be hosted jointly by Edmonton and Red Deer, ideally in front of fans.

After sweeping both games in Ufa earlier this week, Canada put the cap on a perfect Russian leg of the tour on Saturday morning, scoring a 4-2 win to take both games in Omsk as well and give them a commanding 4-0 lead in the series heading back to Canada.

The scene shifted to Omsk on Friday morning, and although Russia played undoubtedly their best game of the series it was another Canadian victory, this time 6-2, giving Canada a 3-0 lead in the eight-game series.
