With just over two weeks before the IIHF Women’s World Championship was set to begin in Halifax and Truro, Nova Scotia, Canada, following a year delay, the IIHF today announced the tournament in Nova Scotia would be cancelled after failing to reach an agreement with federal and provincial government health authorities. The IIHF will instead look to reschedule the tournament for later in the summer of 2021 at an alternate location.

๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡บ CAS Shortens Russian International Sports Ban To Two Years


At a ruling today at the Court Of Arbitration For Sport (CAS) in Lausanne, Switzerland, Russia’s proposed four year sporting ban from the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) was reduced to two years, meaning that Russia will be banned from participating in any international sporting competition, including the 2021 Summer and 2022 Winter Olympics, until 17 December 2022.

With both the National Hockey League and NHL Players Association today ratifying both their return to play proposal to complete the 2019-20 NHL season, as well as extend their latest Collective Bargaining Agreement, one major clause of the plan is the return of NHL players to the Winter Olympics, marking the return of the world’s top professional players for the first time since 2014, pending IOC and IIHF approval.

2020 IIHF Extraordinary Congress Sets Future Calendar

2020 IIHF Rankings, Olympic Seedings Released (UPDATED)


With the world on pause, and all international hockey cancelled, due to the ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic, the IIHF today answered a few of many questions coming out of the cancellations of most major World Championship tournaments, today releasing both the 2020 Men’s and Women’s World Ranking, which in turn has officially confirmed the first qualifiers for the 2022 Beijing Olympics.

This morning in Lausanne, Switzerland, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) unanimously agreed upon a four year ban for Russia not only from the 2020 Summer and 2022 Winter Olympics, but also for its member sport federations (of which the International Ice Hockey Federation is a part) to ban Russia from participating in or hosting any events between now and 2023.

Russian star forward Yevgeni Kuznetsov, a two-time World Champion and World Junior Champion with theย Big Red Machine, today was handed a four year ban from international competition by the International Ice Hockey Federation, after a video surfaced earlier this summer of Kuznetsov ingesting cocaine.

In a shocking development only a week after their championship was awarded to a record audience, the Canadian Womens Hockey League today, claiming an unsustainable business model, would be ceasing operations as of 1 May, ending a 12-year tenure as one of the top two North American women’s leagues, putting a cloud of uncertainty over next week’s World Women’s Championship, as a number of the players now enter the tournament without a club team to return to in 2019-20.

In a similar vein to the IIHF’s decision four years ago to allow Korea automatic berths to the 2018 Olympics in PyeongChang, the IIHF today confirmed at their Annual Congress that the next Winter Olympic hosts, China, will gain automatic berths for the men’s and women’s tournaments in Beijing for the 2022 Games.
