IHLC 2022 In Review – Women’s
After a relative return to normalcy in the international hockey calendar, the women’s circuit saw two major tournaments in the same year for the first time ever, with the IHLC contended at both the Olympics and Women’s World Championship, and twenty one games total over the course of 2022.
2022 Women’s World Championship Schedule Released
For the first time in its history, the IIHF Women’s World Championship will take place in an Olympic year, with the world’s top ten women’s teams convening in Denmark on 25 August to compete for the title of the world’s best, just six months after wrapping up the Olympics in Beijing.

The only player eligible to join in this year’s World Championship, forward Valtteri Filppula tonight joined Triple Gold Club by virtue of winning his second Gold Medal in three months with the Leijonat, becoming the 31st male and first Finnish player to join the club, adding to his Stanley Cup and Olympic Gold medal.

IIHF Announces Tournament Updates Following Russia, Belarus Suspensions
Just under three weeks after announcing that Russia and Belarus were banned from IIHF participation after the Russian-led and Belarusian-backed invasion of Ukraine that began on 24 February, today the International Ice Hockey Federation announced replacement clubs for upcoming participation in the upcoming 2022 Men’s, Women’s and Junior World Championships.

After a sweeping recommendation from the International Olympic Committee to remove Russia and Belarus from international sporting competitions, following their invasion of Ukraine that began on 24 February, today the International Ice Hockey Federation announced a number of updates regarding their respective participation and hosting of future competitions.

It was classic blue-and-white magic. Hannes Björninen scored the third-period winner as Finland captured its first Olympic men’s hockey Gold medal ever with a 2-1 victory over the ROC team on Sunday. Coach Jukka Jalonen’s team rallied from a 1-0 first-period deficit to give their nation of 5.5 million the thrill of a lifetime.

After the NHL and NHL Player’s Association came to an agreement last summer to participate at both the 2022 and 2026 Olympics, pending negotiations with the International Olympic Committee and IIHF, today it was announced that NHL players will in fact participate at the 2022 Beijing Olympics, marking their return to the Games after skipping the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics.
