The IIHF has released the full schedule for the 2019 World Championship in Bratislava and Košice, Slovakia, with defending champions Sweden opening the tournament against the Czechs, while hosts Slovakia open the tournament against the United States.

2018-19 Euro Hockey Tour Schedule Released


After an odd year for the Euro Hockey Tour with the 2018 Olympics smack dab in the middle of the schedule, the 2018-19 Euro Hockey Tour schedule has returned to a similar format, with the core four teams of Czechia, Russia, Finland and Sweden starting up this season’s tournament in November.

Alex Pietrangelo scored at 4:14 of overtime to give Canada a 4-3 win over Switzerland on day five of the 2011 World Championship. Pietrangelo picked up his own rebound after Swiss defenceman Luca Sbisa had blocked his initial shot. The puck came right back to Pietrangelo, who buried it behind Swiss goalie Leonardo Genoni. The Canadian celebration was on – albeit, accompanied by a big sigh of relief as well.

Ryan Gardner had two goals and an assist, and linemate Ivo Rüthemann had a goal and two assists to lead Switzerland to a 4-1 win over Belarus at the Steel Arena. The win gives Switzerland five points in the Group B standings and assures the team a spot in the Qualification Round.

Canada remains on top with six points, and France has a single point from its two games. Belarus is winless in two games.
