IHLC Team Profiles – 🇺🇸 United States (Men’s)

m-usa-team
🇺🇸 UNITED STATES (USA) Men’s National Ice Hockey Team (1920-)
66 wins, 32 reigns, 73 games with IHLC – ranked 7th
current IHLC title holders (since 24 May 2025)

One of the original contenders for the IHLC, the United States has provided some of the most shocking upsets and wildest games in IHLC history, including the 1996 World Cup of Hockey, the 1960 Olympic “Forgotten Miracle,” and of course, the legendary 1980 “Miracle On Ice.” Team USA has been a rare consistent IHLC force in the 100+ years of the title, regularly putting forth competitive teams, and holding nearly thirty IHLC titles to show for it since their first win in 1933, being a consistent threat at all levels of international hockey, backed by some of the top names in the NHL.

IHLC Team Profiles – 🇺🇸 United States (Junior)

🇺🇸 UNITED STATES (USA) Men’s Junior National Ice Hockey Team (1973-)
60 wins, 20 reigns, 63 games with IHLC – ranked 5th
IHLC last held 30 July 2025

While the Americans have been part of every World Junior Championship in history, they never medalled until 1986, only winning a Silver and two Bronze before 2000. But the U.S. team has had something of a coming out in the new millennium, winning Gold seven times since start of the 21st century, and showcasing some of hockey’s most elite talent at the earliest stages of their career, ushering in an unprecedented era of success for Team USA.

175 wins, 43 reigns, 175 games with IHLC – ranked 2nd
current IHLC title holders (since 13 April 2025)

One of the “big two” of women’s international hockey, the U.S. team was just another punching bag for the dominant Canadian squad, until they stunned Canada (and the world) by winning the first women’s Olympic Gold in 1998. Since then, their tilts with Canada have become the stuff of legend, and in recent years the U.S. has become a regular champion at the Women’s World Championship and Olympics. Since becoming the second ever IHLC winner in 1993, the U.S. trails only Canada in the number of IHLC wins, reigns and days as champion.
