Both relegation games at the 2019 World Championship came down to thrilling and surprising finishes, with Great Britain and Italy, both promoted from Division IA in 2018, upsetting France and Austria respectively to send them down to Division IA in 2020, while each punching their ticket back to the Top Division in Switzerland.
The Division IA World Championship tournament saw the return of two powerhouses to the Top Division in 2020, with Belarus and hosts Kazakhstan clinching spots for next year in Switzerland at the 2019 tournament in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan.
🇷🇴 ROMANIA (ROU) Men’s National Ice Hockey Team
Romania first competed for the IHLC in 1934, one of only three games in which they played for the IHLC. This match was also their closest attempt, as they went on to be crushed by Britain in 1937, and by Czechoslovakia in their third and most recent game, forty years later in 1977. The Tricolori have failed to qualify for the World Championship’s top pool since 1977, working to claw their way out of Division IB in the last few years.
